The residency in Sweden comes with a free cottage stay and $1,000; the residency in Scotland comes with a free cottage stay; and the residency at Bernheim comes with a free cabin stay and $500.

All residencies are awarded based on a completed application. All residency periods are dependent, in part, on the overall schedule of the host location. Applications are chosen by an anonymous committee of judges composed of one member of the English Department of Harvard University, one poet of recognized standing, and one fiction writer of recognized standing.

To apply, candidates are required to submit all of the following as ONE PDF or Word document:

  • Ten pages of poetry; one play; or up to 25 pages of fiction, creative nonfiction, or playwriting (double spaced).
  • A CV – including (A) publication list, (B) full contact information, and (C) contact information for two references.
